NWT Snow Interns

snow interns

Snow interns Henry Brandes, Roger Carter and Melissa Cushing take density cuts in their 3.25 meter snow pit. Along with three other interns, the group skis 3 ½ or 4 ½ miles to one of two sites on Niwot Ridge each Friday. Their weekly snow data pits provides researchers with a range of information about the snowpack including density and chemistry. This year the group must get creative in its effort to collect data in snow pits that surpass three meters in depth.
