As human-induced environmental change continues, society is facing an increasing array of pressing environmental challenges.

Dr. Nancy B. Grimm of the Central Arizona Phoenix LTER project and Arizona State University was recently elected president of the Ecological Society of America (ESA).

On 26 February 2004 the LTER Network presented a broad scope of presentations on applied research at the National Science Foundation (NSF).

On 2-3 March 2004, Rich Pouyat and Charlie Nilon, both of Baltimore Ecosystem Study LTER, joined ESA’s Nadine Lymn for Congressional Visits Day (CVD) in Washington D.C.

The field of ecology lost two of its leaders recently when Eugene Odum, 88, and his brother Howard, 78, passed away within a month of each other.
