The March 16, 2007 issue of the journal Science, whose focus is the International Polar Year ( IPY), features an article entitled "Boom and Bust in a Polar Hot Zone" by science writer Erik Stokstad that highlights research by Palmer LTER.
The article focuses on the effects of climate change on the fragile polar ecosystem and the marine bird and mammal species that live there. However, it does not identify Palmer as an LTER site, although it mentions the station by name and quotes extensively from interviews with scientists Bill Fraser and Hugh Ducklow.
