The International LTER Network continues to grow. The current list of countries with LTER Networks is 23 and three new countries (Mexico, South Africa and France) will be voted into the Network during the International LTER Network business meeting April 13, Ottawa, Canada.

EcoRed Venezuela: News from the Venezuelan LTER Network

Dr. Armando Torres-Lezama, new coordinator for the Venezuelan network presided over a symposium held Oct 29-Nov 2, 2001.

The event included: presentations from participants conducting research at stations across the country, and a workshop to foster interactions among the stations, explore ways to create and maintain databases at each station, discuss EcoRed goals in relation to the country’s needs and to Latin American networks, and consider the possibilities of establishing an EcoRed coordinating office.

Dr. Sonia Ortega from the LTER Network Office presented an overview of the U.S. LTER Network and its relevance in tropical regions, met with Venezuelan researchers and students regarding networking possibilities with other LTER sites, and funding options through the National Science Foundation.
