President Barack Obama visits the Florida Everglades on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, to commemorate Earth Day and to highlight the threat of global warming to the U.S. economy and how rising sea levels are putting the economic engine for the South Florida tourism industry at risk.

In advance of President Obama’s visit, Florida Coastal Everglades (FCE) Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program’s Principal Investigator, Evelyn Gaiser, and fellow ecological researchers this week briefed White House officials on, among other things, the emerging threat of rising tides in the Everglades.

Gaiser was also interviewed by journalist Melissa Block of the National Public Radio (NPR), with whom she discussed the damage that’s occurred and continues to occur in the Everglades and what FCE research aimed at tackling the problems is teaching us.
