The Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Network will once again be very well represented at the 98th annual meeting of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) August 4-9 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. LTER Chair Scott Collins, who is also Regent's Professor of Biology and Loren Potter Chair of Plant Ecology at the University of New Mexico, became President of the Ecological Society of America (ESA) on August 10, 2012. Elected by the members of ESA for a one-year term, Collins chaired the ESA Governing Board, the elected governing body of the Society, which provides vision and guidance on ESA initiatives and future direction.
Among the highlights of the LTER footprint at ESA are:
LTER science presentations
A number of LTER scientists are scheduled to present from a diverse menu of talks at the forthcoming ESA meeting in Minnesota. For a comprehensive list of LTER presentations, see LTER at ESA 2013.
The LTER exhibit
The LTER exhibit (booth 420-421) will be co-hosted by the LTER Network Office and the Cedar Creek, Kellogg Biological Station, and North Temperate Lakes LTER sites.
‘Ecological Reflections’
Like last year, the LTERArts team will also be presenting the popular Ecological Reflections Art Exhibit (booths 320-321), which features the collaborative marriage of science with the arts and humanities by 39 artists and writers working with scientists from 11 LTER sites.
NSF to present workshop on science journalism at ESA
Meanwhile, for all those interested in learning how to present science in an interesting way to non-scientists, the National Science Foundation (NSF) has an interesting workshop on science journalism for you during the ESA meeting in Minneapolis, MN. The workshop, Science Journalism: From ‘Little Story on the Prairie’ to Worldwide News, will take place Thursday, August 8, 2013, from 11.30 a.m. to 1.15 p.m. in Room 101B.
