Michael P. Nelson, the Principal Investigator of H.J. Andrews Experimental Forest Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) program, is the co-author of an interesting opinion piece in the New York Times about a battle royale between wolves and moose in the Isle Royale National Park in Michigan. In the article, Nelson and co-authors John A. Vucetich (a population biologist) and Rolf O. Peterson (a wildlife ecologist), both of Michigan Technological University, describe the dynamics of this intricate predator-prey relationship and then go on to argue for the conservation or reintroduction of wolves into the island park.
