At the May Science Council meeting, the LTER Communication Committee circulated a short survey to site Principal Investigators to better understand communication activities at the site level.

The results of this survey indicate that responsibility for communication functions are spread around existing staff at LTER sites.

For example, lead PIs and other PIs shoulder much of the responsibility for writing content for site websites (figure 1).

The survey also elicited information on communication point persons for each site.

A review of LTER site websites done in tandem with the survey found that the vast majority of sites include news and events sections on their websites, although most of this news was not of the type that could be readily communicated at the Network level.

The survey and associated information will be used by the Communication Committee as it seeks to enhance communication capacities at the site level and LTER site to Network communication.
