REU student Rachel Levine, complete with Hantavirus safety equipment, collects data on a banner-tailed kangaroo rat after a fire experiment at Sevilleta. Rodent populations proved to be well-adapted to grassland fires, and survived both the fire itself and the post-fire environment.
